LIECHTENSTEIN 900 Years of a Ruling Family in the Heart of Europe

Special Exhibition Gallery Ⅰ,Ⅱ

The Principality of Liechtenstein is one of the few remaining countries named after its ruling family. Located between Switzerland and Austria, the country is the world’s sixth smallest in terms of area–about one–quarter of the size of Seoul. Still, the House of Liechtenstein has maintained a dynastic history over nine centuries amidst the rise and fall of numerous other royal families in Europe.

The history of the Collections of the House of Liechtenstein goes hand in hand with the establishment of the family. From the early days the family cultivated the ideal of princely patronage and they have carried on this tradition over generations as renowned collectors and patrons of the arts.

The National Palace Museum of Korea’s special exhibition will shed light on the long history and rich culture of Liechtenstein by presenting highlights from the Princely Collections. The museum hopes that archival documents, historic weaponry, sumptuous daily objects, and masterpieces of European art featured in the exhibition will offer an opportunity to understand the history and lifestyle of the Liechtenstein princely family.
