This palanquin was mounted by female royals such as queen dowagers. Palanquins for women are designed in a comparatively more closed structure than those for men.

The exterior of the palanquin is overall lacquered in red and decorated with relief carvings at the front and railings at the sides below the windows. The windows are double-layered and the inner sliding window panels are decorated with openwork floral scrolls. The black awnings that hang from the eaves are longer than those of common palanquins in order to block the gaze from the outside as well as sunlight.

The roof is in the shape of a flat, arched pyramid with a boju (寶珠, jewel finial) at the top. Long red tassels hang from phoenix shaped ornaments at the corners of the roof. The poles are fixed with separate rings and the ends are decorated with dragon head ornaments.
