SPECIAL EXHIBITION GALLERY II (1ST FLOOR)
Korean cultural properties housed in overseas museums have served to promote Korean art and culture worldwide. Regrettably, some of them have suffered damage, alteration, or deterioration over the years.
The Cultural Heritage Administration of Korea (CHA) and the Overseas Korean Cultural Heritage Foundation (OKCHF) have worked together to address such issues, and “Support Programs for the Preservation and Restoration of Overseas Korean Cultural Properties” have helped some of these objects. After careful examination and consultation by experts to determine the urgency of treatment and a work’s art historical value, objects for restoration are selected. CHA, OKCHF, and overseas institutions, then, work closely to restore the selected works in traditional manners to maintain or restore the integrity of these works.
This exhibition shares twelve Korean works from six international institutions that have been treated by Korean conservators during the last two years through this program. The National Palace Museum of Korea hopes our visitors can gain an opportunity to appreciate the reclaimed beauty of these works before they return to their homes overseas to continue to promote Korean art and culture around the globe.
